The Archetypal Painting of Our (Midwestern) Collective Soul

Fall                                                        Waxing Dark Moon

We will have an almost full Dark Moon on Samhain.  That means light for the kiddies out imitating the faery folk coming through the veil from the Sidhe.  Of course, the weather needs to cooperate for the moon to be visible.

Mark Nordeen came over this morning and we checked out the bees for the winter.  The little buggers didn’t put any honey to speak of in my honey supers, but they did fill out the third hive box.  That means they have plenty of food for the winter. Now I have to buy a cardboard sleeve to fit over the hives to help them get through our tough winters.

Next March I take the bee-keeping course offered by the UofM.  I’ll also buy my own hive boxes and supers over the winter and prepare them.  Two hives allow you to have a colony with a fresh queen and one with a queen whose 2-year life span is near an end.  Hopefully the Seven Oaks Hives will produce some honey next year.american-gothic

From now until the end of the Louvre show I will post paintings considered to be masterpieces by someone or another.  You’ll be able to judge for yourself.  The first painting is a familiar one to us Midwesterners and could be called the archetypal painting of our collective soul.
