{"id":11044,"date":"2011-08-06T11:46:37","date_gmt":"2011-08-06T17:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=11044"},"modified":"2011-08-06T11:46:37","modified_gmt":"2011-08-06T17:46:37","slug":"co-habitation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=11044","title":{"rendered":"Co-Habitation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lughnasa\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waxing Honey Extraction Moon<\/p>\n<p>While harvesting Swiss Chard this morning, I looked down and saw a streak of blue head for the edge of the raised bed.\u00a0 I stopped all motion and, sure enough, the blue streak slowed, <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11045 alignright\" title=\"blue-tailed-skink\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/blue-tailed-skink.jpg\" alt=\"blue-tailed-skink\" width=\"180\" height=\"144\" \/>stopped and looked.\u00a0 A skink with a bright blue tail had a curious, what&#8217;s going on in my world, peek, then scurried down a small hole underneath the horizontal board topping the side of the raised bed.<\/p>\n<p>One of the pleasures of non-toxic gardening lies in the number of garden critters that develop happy homes in and around the beds.\u00a0 We have salamanders, skinks, various snakes, toads and frogs as well as the more common gopher, chipmunk, opposum, raccoon, groundhog, rabbit and squirrel.<\/p>\n<p>The number of insects and arachnids also increase in variety, too.
