OK, I’m late to the 10,000 hour rule. \u00a0You probably know about it from Macolm Gladwell’s book, Outliers. \u00a0I missed it or, if I noticed it, I passed it by.<\/p>\n
It did make me think when I ran across it recently. \u00a0What would be worth spending that much time to polish? \u00a0First question, is there anything I’ve done repeatedly, for hours at a time, over several years? \u00a0Yes, writing. \u00a0Being a student. \u00a0Engaging in political activity. \u00a0Studying Art. \u00a0And most recently, translating Latin.<\/p>\n
Second question. \u00a0Are there any of those that I want to continue that I might pursue at a pace to reach 10,000 hours or so? \u00a0I’ve already reached that level in being a student and, I’m sure, in political work. \u00a0That pares the question down to writing, art and Latin.<\/p>\n
I will continue writing, so writing at an increasing pace makes sense to me. \u00a0Studying art is fun, but I’m never going to put in 3 hours a day at it. \u00a0Just not that interested. \u00a0But. \u00a0The Latin? \u00a0Maybe so. \u00a0Maybe so.<\/p>\n
That would mean pruning my close attention and active time to two activities, writing and Latin. \u00a0Might make sense. \u00a0Hmmm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
