{"id":1522,"date":"2008-12-12T21:47:27","date_gmt":"2008-12-13T03:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2008-12-12T21:47:27","modified_gmt":"2008-12-13T03:47:27","slug":"an-old-faith-taking-on-new-raiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=1522","title":{"rendered":"An Old Faith Taking on New Raiment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>18\u00a0 bar steep fall\u00a0 1mph\u00a0 SSW\u00a0 windchill 18\u00a0\u00a0 Samhain<\/p>\n<p>Full Moon of Long Nights<\/p>\n<p>How do you stretch out the creative muscle, let the reins loose on the resources hidden somewhere beyond or under the rational wall?\u00a0 When the Pegasus of new thought tries to rise from its tether inside the amygdala, the fear raiser of the brain, what can be done to smooth its way?\u00a0 To calm the nakedness of the soul?<\/p>\n<p>There is, I am sure of it, an old faith taking on new raiment.\u00a0 It says nothing new; it proclaims nothing that is not obvious; it offers no new wisdom.\u00a0 It cares not for written texts, for prayers or priests, for churches or temples.\u00a0 It does not require protection under the first amendment or any amendment of any laws of humankind, for its law is writ in the language of the stars.<\/p>\n<p>It has holy places.\u00a0 Places we know by their Torii or their thick ropes.\u00a0 Places we know by worn paths that lead us through forests, along rivers, up mountainsides, into the garden.\u00a0 Places we know by the trembling sense of wonder they evoke in us.\u00a0 A crashing waterfall.\u00a0 An erupting volcano.\u00a0 An opening tulip.\u00a0 The birth of a howler monkey among the ruins of ancient Angkor.\u00a0 Places we know by the care others have taken: paintings, poems, cairns and prayer ties.<\/p>\n<p>These holy places were not decreed in some council or by a guru or selected by a committee.\u00a0 No, they were decreed by the hand of Pangea, sculpted by the artisans wind and water.
