{"id":154,"date":"2007-12-24T16:54:47","date_gmt":"2007-12-24T22:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=154"},"modified":"2007-12-24T16:57:28","modified_gmt":"2007-12-24T22:57:28","slug":"death-disaster-and-deck-the-halls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=154","title":{"rendered":"Death, Disaster and Deck the Halls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>10\u00a0 80%\u00a0 24%\u00a0 0mphESE\u00a0 bar 30.02 steady\u00a0 windchill 10\u00a0\u00a0 Winter<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Full Cold Moon<\/p>\n<p>Since Kate came back from a\u00a0disaster preparedness event at work in May, we&#8217;ve had a manila folder marked death and disaster.\u00a0 After a couple of postponements (and, I&#8217;m glad to say, neither death nor disaster), we got around to it today.\u00a0 An odd choice for Christmas Eve, but it fit our schedule.<\/p>\n<p>We now have a plan and a kit with those things they always tell you to have somewhere.\u00a0 You know, matches in a waterproof container, blankets,\u00a0first aid material, things like that.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a large kit, stowed in a plastic container and destined to live in our coat closet until that moment.\u00a0 My own analysis tells me that fire, tornado and lengthy power outage are the most likely disasters to hit us here in Andover.\u00a0 I have a hard time imagining Al Qaeda having an interest in Anoka County.\u00a0 Any of it.\u00a0 We&#8217;re on the high point for some miles, on sand, and far from any body of water that acts up.\u00a0 Minnesota has no history of hurricanes; but, the folks that did Kate&#8217;s event claim we have a moderate risk of earthquake.\u00a0 Geologically I suppose that&#8217;s true, but it seems improbable.<\/p>\n<p>We also have insurance documents, financial papers, wills and power of attorney stowed in our safe.
