Kate went, oooh! \u00a0What? \u00a0She came into the workshop bearing a foot long hank of hair, still gathered in a small rubber band. \u00a0Mine. \u00a0From the day I decided to stop wearing my hair long. \u00a0The thing is. \u00a0This is beautiful, auburn hair. \u00a0It still has sheen and highlights. \u00a0Boy, that must have been a while ago.<\/p>\n

Now. \u00a0Would have been fit for the gray pony tail radio hour. \u00a0Nothing but Jefferson Airplane, early Stones and Led Zepplin. \u00a0And my hair.<\/p>\n

Got out the sledge hammer, carried snow fence stakes to the orchard, dug a small pit, pounded one stake into the ground and put a plastic covered wire round the leaning tree of Zestra, pulled and secured. \u00a0Pretty good, but it took a two by four wedged in the earth coming from the other direction to secure the tree upright. \u00a0Another stake and more plastic coated wire around another leaning apple tree.<\/p>\n

Inside I coarsely chopped onions, potatoes, leeks, carrots and simmered them in homemade vegetable broth with a stick of butter and lots of pepper. \u00a025 minutes later I added 6 pealed tomatoes, quartered, a half pound of mushrooms and simmered 10 minutes more. \u00a0Winter vegetable soup.<\/p>\n

Kate gathered herbs and the last of the tomatoes. \u00a0We’ll have to cover the peppers. \u00a0Freeze \"\"<\/a>warning tonight: \u00a025-32 degrees. \u00a0She also picked raspberries and the leeks I needed for the winter vegetable soup.<\/p>\n

She also cleaned and stored our Zestra crop. \u00a060 or 70 apples. \u00a0The bagged apples were in much better shape than the non-bagged ones. \u00a0That was on purpose to see if bagging really helped. \u00a0It’s such a pain I wanted to know for sure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
