{"id":16949,"date":"2012-10-27T19:04:06","date_gmt":"2012-10-28T01:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=16949"},"modified":"2016-05-10T14:50:34","modified_gmt":"2016-05-10T20:50:34","slug":"rock-then-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=16949","title":{"rendered":"Rock, then Roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fall \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Fallowturn Moon<\/p>\n<p>The way it goes. \u00a0Life rumbles along, eggs getting bought and eaten, trash taken out, kisses given, strangers greeted. \u00a0Then, a day like today rolls around.<\/p>\n<p>Kate took me into the MIA today so I could attend the first of a day symposium on the Qin dynasty and matters related to its art. \u00a0Three great lectures in the morning, another after lunch and a couple of so so ones following Jenny So, the after lunch lecturer.<\/p>\n<p>Concepts, objects, new history all shoved in as fast as a willing brain could absorb it. \u00a0And I was willing. \u00a0Eager, even. \u00a0However the bin gets full, develops what miners call an over burden and the mind says, no more, please not now.<\/p>\n<p>So into the car with Kate to head out to France avenue for a memorial service for Regina Schmidt, Bill Schmidt&#8217;s wife. \u00a0Woollys and sheepshead folks in the same space. \u00a0Bill greeting people with his gracious dignity, pictures and videos going as is the new trend.<\/p>\n<p>Then the service with songs and poems and testimony, a wonderful heartfelt poem by Bill.<\/p>\n<p>All the while wrestling with Kate&#8217;s news that Gertie had taken a post-op turn for the worse, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/RBig-Island-August-2012.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16952\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/RBig-Island-August-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/RBig-Island-August-2012.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/RBig-Island-August-2012-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a>feverish and limp. \u00a0Kate took her to the vet, they cut off the bandage and she&#8217;d developed an infection. \u00a0Wind, Water, Wound is the post-op mantra for possibilities of infection.<\/p>\n<p>(Bill and I on Big Island in Lake Minnetonka)<\/p>\n<p>She got a second anti-biotic and Kate brought her home. \u00a0She thought about calling me and asking if I could find a ride home to Andover.<\/p>\n<p>So we left after the service, got a bulb syringe to encourage her to drink and some fancy wet dogfood. \u00a0She&#8217;d not eaten nor drunk water. \u00a0Both obvious concerns.<\/p>\n<p>When we got home, she ate all the fancy wet food and, after I syringed several tablespoons of water through her teeth, she drank all on her own. \u00a0Her eyes are alert though her temp is still high. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see, but my guess is she&#8217;s turning this thing around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Fallowturn Moon The way it goes. \u00a0Life rumbles along, eggs getting bought and eaten, trash taken out, kisses given, strangers greeted. \u00a0Then, &hellip;
