The Lay of Thrym. \u00a0It recounts how Loki convinced Thor to visit jotunheim (home of the giants) in drag. \u00a0Thor woke up one day and his hammer, the famed mjollnir, had gone missing. \u00a0He complained to Loki and Loki agreed to set off on a quest to find it.<\/p>\n

Find it he did. \u00a0Thrym had it. \u00a0“Eight rasts below the surface of the midgard.” \u00a0A rast, according to one website, was a bit more than a mile. \u00a0Too far to dig, in other words.<\/p>\n
Thrym offered Loki a deal. \u00a0He wanted Freyja, a goddess among the Aesir famed for her attractiveness to giants.<\/p>\n
Loki agreed, returned to Asgard, told Thor and then went to see Freyja who rejected the idea. \u00a0A lot.<\/p>\n
Loki had another idea. \u00a0He convinced Thor to wear Freyja’s bridal wear, including her famed Brisinga necklace. \u00a0Thrym was so taken with her appearance at jotunheim that he ordered mjollnir brought in and placed on her knees.<\/p>\n
The lay then says, “Laughed Thor’s soul in his breast…” \u00a0And in the very next sentence: \u00a0“He first slew Thrym…and the jotun’s race all crushed…”<\/p>\n
“So got Odin’s son his hammer back.”<\/p>\n
