And so. \u00a0Had lunch with Allison at the Walker. \u00a0“Elvis has left the building,” she said when we met. \u00a0Today at 1 pm I said good-bye to Jennifer and Paula, turned in my badge to the guard, picked up my coat, the attendant found it before I put my number on the counter, that’s how much I’ve been there of late, walked out the door and left the museum behind.<\/p>\n
Not forever. \u00a0Just till July 1st. \u00a0But it felt like a definite parting, an end of something and the beginning of another.<\/p>\n
It was time, too. \u00a0I found myself impatient with kids on my first tour, 9 year olds, half of whom flocked to benches to sit down while the tour moved around them. \u00a0I was short. \u00a0Not helpful, but my toleration level for young indifference had reached a peak. \u00a0Time for \u00a0a rest.<\/p>\n
When I saw Allison, we talked about the MIA, about touring, about her absence. \u00a0She mentioned that no one made any to do about Tom Byfield, who resigned last week. \u00a0Folks leave and neither the docent corps or the museum acknowledges the time and love they’ve put in over the years. \u00a0Often, many years.<\/p>\n

We also walked through the Cindy Sherman show. \u00a0Allison made an interesting point. \u00a0“Who is Cindy Sherman? \u00a0I mean, she’s about our age. \u00a0Has she had work done? \u00a0What’s she really like?” \u00a0A Walker guard said she’s unremarkable in person. \u00a058. \u00a0It’s an interesting question. \u00a0As a sort of performance artist, wondering who she\u00a0is raises questions of the nature of reality and the ability of artists to manipulate it.<\/p>\n
