Went upstairs. \u00a0Heard sounds of a scrap outside. \u00a0Opened the sliding doors to the back. \"\"<\/a>\u00a0Vega and Rigel had Gertie on the ground, tearing into her with vicious abandon. \u00a0Though I know better, I waded in bellowing and got them all separated.<\/p>\n

Gertie had multiple lacerations, a tummy wound bleeding in large, red blots and her right upper canine stood horizontal to her jaw. \u00a0 After crating Vega and Rigel to calm things down, I found Gertie’s most serious wound, staunched it with a towel which I had to secure with a dog leash wrapped round her middle and proceeded to check her for other injuries.<\/p>\n

There were several. \u00a0Kate was on the way home from a day of sewing. \u00a0I cleaned up the floor. \u00a0It looked like an abattoir. \u00a0When Kate got home (we only have one vehicle now), we took Gertie to the emergency vet. \u00a0This was around 5 pm. \u00a0We just got back and it’s now 10 pm.<\/p>\n

She’s got a cross the heart bandage, several drains, no more right canine. \u00a0It slid right out. \u00a0We have it in a blue pill bottle. \u00a0Antibiotics. \u00a0E-collar. \u00a0Pain meds. \u00a0The usual drill. \u00a0We’ve been through dog trauma many times. \u00a0It passes.<\/p>\n

She’s groggy, but in good spirits. \u00a0She’s a sweet girl, but damn she’s expensive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
