\nIn its white beginning,
\nWith white leaves
\nAnd white buds
\nBarely tipped with green,
\nIn the April weather,
\nIn the weeping sunshine–
\nThen I see my lady,
\nMy democratic queen,
\nStanding free and equal
\nWith the youngest woodland sapling
\nSwaying, singing in the wind,
\nDelicate and white:
\nSoul so near to blossom,
\nFragile, strong as death;
\nA kiss from far-off Eden,
\nA flash of Judgment’s trumpet–
