{"id":21666,"date":"2013-08-15T09:18:27","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T15:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=21666"},"modified":"2016-05-09T10:08:44","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T16:08:44","slug":"the-honey-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=21666","title":{"rendered":"The Honey Moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>8\/11\/2013\u00a0 Lughnasa\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Honey Moon<\/p>\n<p>BTW:\u00a0 I don\u2019t change moon names mid-month but when I realized this was the honey extraction moon I decided to go ahead.\u00a0 Honey Moon is too good to pass up.<\/p>\n<p>Finished moving limbs in the prairie grass area this morning.\u00a0 In matters related to trees I have experience.\u00a0 I learned long ago that if you line up the limbs in the same direction and pull them all together so that their branching parts follow the cut ends, moving them is easy.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t do it that way, you\u2019re in for a frustrating time.\u00a0 Of course, chipping them is the usual practice, but I like building up brush piles for critters and I\u2019ve done that as the default option for years.\u00a0 Not to say I haven\u2019t chipped.\u00a0 I have, but only when the amount was considerable.\u00a0 Wasn\u2019t the case this morning.<\/p>\n<p>This project involved cutting down several ash trees and saplings that I had let grow up in the prairie grass area.\u00a0 They had begun to shade the orchard and it was time for them to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMAG0746.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21668\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMAG0746-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMAG0746\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>come down.\u00a0 Past time, really.\u00a0 I cut the trees down with the felling axe and limbed them with the limbing axe, but I used the chain saw to cut the trunks into logs.\u00a0 The big pruners, 2 foot plus handles, allowed me to take out the amur maple saplings, too.\u00a0 That area is now back to its original purpose, prairie grass and wild flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Still plan to loaf today.\u00a0 Sort of.\u00a0 In my loafing I\u2019m reading Madame Bovary and I finished the Communist Manifesto yesterday.\u00a0 They\u2019re both for my Modern\/Post-Modern MOOC.\u00a0 The guy who\u2019s teaching it, Michael Roth, is the president of Wesleyan University and a scholar of French thought.\u00a0 That makes the bias French thought, the touchstone he keeps coming back to in his examples and the source of several of the readings.\u00a0 Though I took French in high school, I\u2019ve not kept up with it and matters French have not figured significantly in my education, having a more English\/German bias myself.\u00a0 Gives this course a different feel for me and I like it.\u00a0 But.\u00a0 It\u2019s not convincing me so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>8\/11\/2013\u00a0 Lughnasa\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Honey Moon BTW:\u00a0 I don\u2019t change moon names mid-month but when I realized this was the honey extraction moon I decided to go ahead.\u00a0 Honey Moon is too good to pass up.
