Virgil’s Bees<\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

 <\/p>\n

Bless air’s gift of sweetness, honey<\/p>\n

from the bees, inspired by clover,<\/p>\n

marigold, eucalyptus, thyme,<\/p>\n

the hundred perfumes of the wind.<\/p>\n

Bless the beekeeper<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

who chooses for her hives<\/p>\n

a site near water, violet beds, no yew,<\/p>\n

no echo. Let the light lilt, leak, green<\/p>\n

or gold, pigment for queens,<\/p>\n

and joy be inexplicable but\u00a0there<\/p>\n

in harmony of willowherb and stream,<\/p>\n

of summer heat and breeze,<\/p>\n

each bee’s body<\/p>\n

at its brilliant flower, lover-stunned,<\/p>\n

strumming on fragrance, smitten.<\/p>\n

For this,<\/p>\n

let gardens grow, where beelines end,<\/p>\n

sighing in roses, saffron blooms, buddleia;<\/p>\n

where bees pray on their knees, sing, praise<\/p>\n

in pear trees, plum trees; bees<\/p>\n

are the batteries of orchards, gardens, guard them.<\/p>\n
