Spring\u00a0 Waxing Seed Moon<\/p>\n
Uh-oh.\u00a0 On my way back from the Institute this morning I felt my left cheek.\u00a0 Swollen.\u00a0 Beginning to ache.\u00a0 I have a funny feeling this may not be a pleasant couple of days.\u00a0 I called Jeff Erickson, the root canaler.\u00a0 His office has closed for the weekend.\u00a0 Not to worry.\u00a0 He gave me his cell.\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0 Had to leave a message.\u00a0 He’ll call back, I’m sure, but hasn’t yet.<\/p>\n
Tours this morning were good.\u00a0 Very different.\u00a0 The first, from excell academy in Brooklyn Park, had all 4th grade boys, some African and some African-American.<\/p>\n
He just called back.\u00a0 The anti-biotics I have will be enough to see if this goes down.\u00a0 The pressure has begun to build.\u00a0 He said if I still had trouble early next week he might go in and lance it.\u00a0 I said, “That crossed my mind.\u00a0 Unpleasantly.”\u00a0 “Oh, no,” he said, “it’s a blessing if you need it.”\u00a0\u00a0 I’ll take his word for it.<\/p>\n
Koran and Mohammed were two of the boys.\u00a0 These were inquisitive, interested kids who’d never been to a museum before.\u00a0 They wanted to look at everything.\u00a0 They asked me we had anything by Leonardo Da Vinci.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 How about the Blue Boy?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 How about Georgia O’Keefe?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We made a game out of figuring out which was O’Keefe’s painting.<\/p>\n
It’s a cityscape at night, very different from what the boys had seen.\u00a0 They loved the African masks.\u00a0 One boy had been to Cameroon and seen his father dance a mask that we had.\u00a0 They also asked to see illuminated manuscripts.\u00a0 4th graders.\u00a0 So we went into the Islamic gallery.\u00a0 We ended with Chinese calligraphy.\u00a0 A big hit.\u00a0 They’d studied Chinese calligraphy and some of their work was in the school hall back at the academy.<\/p>\n
Second tour, an Asmat tour, was a couple from Coon Rapids with their 9 or 10 year old daughter.\u00a0 She had just had a birthday and asked to come to the MIA.\u00a0 She showed her parents the Chihully in the lobby.\u00a0 “We studied him in the first grade,” she said.\u00a0 “Yeah,” her mother said, “she’s culturing us.”<\/p>\n
We had a good tour of the Asmat show.\u00a0 They asked questions, interacted and learned.\u00a0 It was a fun, intimate family experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
