{"id":23139,"date":"2013-11-11T18:59:31","date_gmt":"2013-11-12T00:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=23139"},"modified":"2016-05-08T11:27:39","modified_gmt":"2016-05-08T17:27:39","slug":"missing-in-the-dark-wood-lycaon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=23139","title":{"rendered":"Missing, In the Dark Wood, Lycaon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samhain \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Thanksgiving Moon<\/p>\n<p>Involved with what is, I believe, technically the fifth revision of Missing. \u00a020,000 words went out today, a whole story line about a goddess and her giantess assistance. \u00a0It included, too, a favorite part of the book for me, the Wyrm and the Weregild, a group of expert giant dragon hunters. \u00a0But this storyline does not intersect directly with the primary story in Missing and it&#8217;s now in the pile for Loki&#8217;s Children, which now has over 50,000 plus words available from the drafts and revisions up to now of Missing.<\/p>\n<p>Some key names got changed, transitions made more clear. \u00a0I got about half way through a quick review. \u00a0Probably will finish with that tomorrow. \u00a0Then I&#8217;ll go back in and start adding some more description, some character development and I may, probably will, change the ending to give it more punch. \u00a0Thanks to Stefan for the idea.<\/p>\n<p>Translated another four verses in the story of Lycaon today, too. \u00a0These were hard, either the Latin was thick or I was. \u00a0Maybe both. \u00a0Still. \u00a0Done. \u00a0That&#8217;s my goal per day.<\/p>\n<p>Also worked on ModPo&#8217;s final week. \u00a0Two very interesting poets today. \u00a0Erica Baum is a conceptual poet who combines photography and found language to create intriguing works. \u00a0Here are two images we reviewed in class:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first is from a work called Card Catalogues where Baum photographed certain portions of the New York University Library&#8217;s old card catalog. \u00a0Each photograph is a poem of juxtaposition created by the strange constraint of alphabetically organizing knowledge. \u00a0The second is one of several pieces from a work, Dog Ear. \u00a0These are all large photographs, Card Catalog is too, and she hangs them in galleries together, though each photograph stands alone. \u00a0This is part of the conceptualist idea that ambient language contains all we need as far as poetry. \u00a0We only have to work to find it. \u00a0But that work can be difficult.<\/p>\n<p>The next poet is\u00a0Caroline Bergvall, a French-Norwegian who works in English. \u00a0Her work is a ten-minute recitation of 47 different translations of the famous opening lines of Dante&#8217;s Inferno:<\/p>\n<p>When I had journeyed half of our life&#8217;s way,<br \/>\nI found myself within a shadowed forest,<br \/>\nfor I had lost the path that does not stray. \u00a0from the Mandelbaum translation<\/p>\n<p>This is a strangely evocative, haunting experience. \u00a0You can hear her read it <a href=\"http:\/\/media.sas.upenn.edu\/pennsound\/authors\/Bergvall\/Rockdrill-8\/Bergvall-Caroline_06_Via_Via_Rockdrill-8_2005.mp3\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(Frame from a 1911 Italian film version of the Divine Comedy.\u00a0The director&#8217;s name was Giuseppe De Liguoro. from <a href=\"http:\/\/phernandokatz.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/Giuseppe%20De%20Liguoro\">this website<\/a>.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samhain \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Thanksgiving Moon Involved with what is, I believe, technically the fifth revision of Missing. \u00a020,000 words went out today, a whole story line &hellip;
