East Coast bombs feed off of warm Atlantic and Gulf Stream waters, and cold air diving south from Canada.\u00a0It\u2019s a unique geographic situation. \u00a0The following explanation from <a href=\"http:\/\/weather.ou.edu\/~mbergman\/bombcyclogenesis\/index2.html\">this website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Simply put, bomb cyclogenesis is the formation of an \u201cextratropical area of low pressure in which the central barometric pressure drops at least 24 millibars in 24 hours.\u201d [1] However, it should be noted that this represents the most common case in areas that are north of 60 degrees latitude.
