Beware success with perennial flowers.\u00a0\u00a0 I have, long ago, mastered the art of growing asiatic lilies, iris and day lillies.\u00a0 To my occasional regret.\u00a0 The asiatic lilies are not too much of a problem though even they live long and prosper, therefore sometimes making a nuisance of themselves.<\/p>\n
Iris and day lillies though are another matter.\u00a0 They grow, multiply, spread.\u00a0 When in a happy location, their presence can become not much distinguishable from weeds, especially since the definition of a weed is a plant out of place.<\/p>\n
I just finished two hours of digging and moving daylillies.\u00a0 Again.\u00a0 The good news is that they grow anywhere you put them.\u00a0 The bad news is the same.\u00a0 I have a sturdy Smith and Hawkings spading fork which I broke today.\u00a0 Again.\u00a0 Shouldn’t have stepped on it to free the gnarly net of roots the daylilly clumps develop.\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 A satsifying, yet frustrating morning.<\/p>\n
They need to move again because I want the sunny spot they have occupied for sprawling melons and cucumbers.\u00a0 This spot has great sun and lots of room for squash sprawl, a good thing if you have the room and we do.\u00a0 Right where one large batch of daylillies currently live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
