Leg two of the trip begins in about two hours, the Capitol Limited to Chicago.\u00a0 This is, again, a sleeper.\u00a0 The first few hours in daylight will take us through Maryland, West Virginia and into Pennsylvania.\u00a0 As night comes, we’ll travel through western Pennsylvania and Ohio, reaching Chicago at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 1st.<\/p>\n
This morning I saw the Phillips collection again.\u00a0 It’s strange the way memory shapes expectations.\u00a0 Two falls ago I went to New York and revisited the Cloisters, once one of my favorite places.\u00a0 This time it seemed smaller, less magical.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 I can’t say.<\/p>\n
The Phillips collection was the same.\u00a0 Though there were a couple of Bonnards and Cezannes that drew me in, the Morris Louis paintings, especially his blue column and the Rothko room, the rest left me flat.<\/p>\n
The D.C. metro though was as good as I recalled.\u00a0 It’s clean, easy to use and reasonably priced.<\/p>\n
I took it to the Freer where the piece that jumped out at me was Whistler’s Peacock Room.\u00a0 So overdone, but at the same so cohesive and beautiful.<\/p>\n
A meal at the Smithsonian Castle Cafe and I headed back to the station.\u00a0 It’s the afternoon.\u00a0 Hot.\u00a0 I remembered.\u00a0 Besides it’s also the time when I take a nap.\u00a0 Which I plan to do right now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
