{"id":3047,"date":"2009-07-10T07:35:28","date_gmt":"2009-07-10T13:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=3047"},"modified":"2009-07-10T07:35:28","modified_gmt":"2009-07-10T13:35:28","slug":"waving-as-they-left","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=3047","title":{"rendered":"Waving As They Left"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summer\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waning\u00a0 Summer Moon<\/p>\n<p>Duffel bags and cloth grocery bags went into the plastic Yakima carrier on top of the Colorado state car, the Subaru.\u00a0 Ruth got in her car seat with the two spongy plastic balls Grandma bought her.\u00a0 Gabe crawled through the morning grass and got some cutting on his Gap jeans and his pale blue shirt the color of his eyes.\u00a0 Herschel came out, bounded up in the front with Ruth, then went, reluctantly to his place in the rear where he has a small fan to keep him cool.\u00a0 Finally, Mom and Dad got in the front seat and the Olson family headed out for points west.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma and I stood, waving as they left.\u00a0 We were sad to see them go.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jon will have surgery on his shoulder on August 12th, surgery made necessary by his joint crushing fall now over two years ago.\u00a0 Jen starts her work in a new school at the end of this month and she&#8217;s excited about that.\u00a0 Ruth and Gabe will continue to head across to Marcella&#8217;s, or Humphrey&#8217;s as Ruth calls her long time day care provider.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll seem them again sometime in the fall; I may go out for a visit after Jon&#8217;s surgery to help out for a bit.\u00a0 It still feels a bit odd to be the Grandparent, the one visited by the kids after a long drive away from home.\u00a0 Odd, but good.<\/p>\n<p>Last night I scored a minor geek triumph.\u00a0 My photoshop elements ceased functioning a good while ago, over three weeks.\u00a0 This is a program I use a lot.\u00a0 I got so frustrated with it that I took it to the Geek Squad.\u00a0 They fixed my disappearing optical drives, sold me two more gigs of RAM but said pass on a photoshop fix.<\/p>\n<p>The guy suggested a repair install or a remove and reinstall.\u00a0 I did both.\u00a0 No joy.\u00a0 I went through all the diagnostics I know the machine has available.\u00a0 None there either.\u00a0 Finally, late last night I went back to the chat rooms and found, on an Adobe forum, a possible fix.\u00a0 I tried it.\u00a0 Damn.\u00a0 It worked!\u00a0 Satisfaction.\u00a0 Felt pretty damned good.<\/p>\n<p>Installing the two gigs of RAM was the first time in my long experience using computers that I had cracked the shell and done any work inside.\u00a0 It took a bit of time and care, but, by god, I got them in and now this computer has three gigs of RAM.\u00a0\u00a0 More satisfaction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summer\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waning\u00a0 Summer Moon Duffel bags and cloth grocery bags went into the plastic Yakima carrier on top of the Colorado state car, the Subaru.\u00a0 Ruth got in her car seat with the two spongy plastic balls Grandma bought her.\u00a0 Gabe crawled through the morning grass and got some cutting on his Gap jeans and &hellip;
