Slow day.\u00a0 Went into Kapa’a and had lunch at the Wahoo Seafood Bar and Grill.\u00a0 In fact, I had Wahoo.\u00a0 Wahoo!\u00a0 Not bad, but not as good as I expected from an “award winning” restaurant noted as Kauai’s best for\u00a0seafood.\u00a0 It has bamboo slats for wainscoting along the outside, waist high wall.\u00a0 Inside its primary distinguishing feature is a well-drawn fish-hook,\u00a0the Wahoo’s graphic.<\/p>\n
After lunch I puttered over to the Coconut Grove Market, a place I recalled from our visit ten-years ago.\u00a0 Then, it must have been new because I remember it\u00a0as modestly upscale, now its crowds seem to come from tour buses and cruise ships.\u00a0 Many shops have closed and whoever owns the place is not wasting money on upkeep.\u00a0 Shabby.<\/p>\n
I did buy some music there, an Island themed Taj Mahal CD and a well-known Hawaiian singer, Keali’i Reichel’s CD, Kawaipunahele.\u00a0 Buy two, get one handed to you.\u00a0 Volume 2 of Paradise music.\u00a0 Guess folks my age are the only ones who buy CD’s anymore.\u00a0 Gosh, first vinyls, now CD’s.\u00a0 Can DVD’s be far behind?<\/p>\n
Tomorrow I plan to go Lumahi Gardens just beyond Hanalei.\u00a0 Was gonna go today, but they are closed.\u00a0 This is part of the National Tropical Botanical Gardens and focuses on native Hawai’ian plants, many of which are now rare, or extinct in the wild.<\/p>\n
Looked at the hometown weather this morning.\u00a0 0 with a -10 windchill.\u00a0 Kate said she had to blow 4-5 inches of compacted snow off the driveway.\u00a0 A welcome home to Minnesota ritual.\u00a0 She also picked up the dogs who were very happy to go home, though they had a good time at doggy camp, too.<\/p>\n
