{"id":3993,"date":"2009-10-04T08:59:29","date_gmt":"2009-10-04T14:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=3993"},"modified":"2009-10-04T08:59:29","modified_gmt":"2009-10-04T14:59:29","slug":"rigel-redux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=3993","title":{"rendered":"Rigel Redux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fall\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waxing Blood Moon<\/p>\n<p>After reviewing the stats for ancientrails, I learned something old.\u00a0 During the time when Rigel and her sidekick Vega staged their break-outs readership went up.\u00a0 My assumption is that conflict drove the rise.\u00a0 Can man outsmart dog?<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 14 or so.\u00a0 Vega and Rigel have not escaped the yard since the electric fence went up with the one exception I <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3994\" title=\"orchardfence709\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/orchardfence709-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"orchardfence709\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/orchardfence709-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/orchardfence709.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>mentioned where Rigel opened the truck gate.\u00a0 There is, though, a follow-on.\u00a0 While gnashing my teeth\u00a0 about the escapes and to allow Vega and Rigel some outside time, I reversed field and put them inside the fence we put up to keep them out of the orchard.\u00a0 Did you follow that?<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0 only lasted for a few days while Kate and I gathered our strength and solved the larger problem, then we let them back out into the larger backyard.\u00a0 Now, however, Rigel yearns for those days in the orchard.\u00a0 So what does she do?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 She climbs into the orchard.\u00a0 Do you hear those teeth again?\u00a0 Right now I don&#8217;t know how she does it.<\/p>\n<p>On another front.\u00a0 The bees.\u00a0 Mark Nordeen graciously set me in bee-keeping this spring with the loan of a bee suit as well as hive boxes and supers (for the honey).\u00a0 He came over frequently at first, then gradually let me handle the bees on my own.\u00a0 We are, however, in the fall and I need to make the bees comfortable for winter.<\/p>\n<p>Since bees are warm climate critters, not even native to our shores, winters alone can kill an entire hive.\u00a0 As\u00a0 you can imagine, our winter puts a good deal of stress on a hive.\u00a0 That stress plus some disease and pesticides contributes to Colony Collapse Disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Elise, Kate&#8217;s colleague and Mark&#8217;s wife, got a new horse, an heirloom breed and a black mare.\u00a0 While putting the horse in a trainer (Elise rides dressage.), the horse kicked Elise on the chin, threw her fifteen feet and knocked her out.\u00a0 The kick separated skin from bone around and below her jawline.\u00a0 She&#8217;s better, but still suffering head-aches and neck pain.\u00a0 As you might imagine.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow that means the bees and I are on our own on this getting ready for winter deal.\u00a0 A learning experience for me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waxing Blood Moon After reviewing the stats for ancientrails, I learned something old.\u00a0 During the time when Rigel and her sidekick Vega staged their break-outs readership went up.\u00a0 My assumption is that conflict drove the rise.\u00a0 Can man outsmart dog?
