{"id":4291,"date":"2009-11-01T23:24:30","date_gmt":"2009-11-02T05:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=4291"},"modified":"2009-11-01T23:25:34","modified_gmt":"2009-11-02T05:25:34","slug":"a-good-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=4291","title":{"rendered":"A Good Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samhain\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Full Dark Moon<\/p>\n<p>Rigel and Vega spent much of the day defending us from visiting neighborhood dogs.\u00a0 Of course, thanks to our record setting fence-lines no battle could be joined, but jaw-boning was much in evidence.\u00a0 This evening they came in, flopped down on the couch and went to sleep.\u00a0 That is except for the show on birth and babies in the animal kingdom.\u00a0 Rigel turned her head toward the TV and watched a mule-deer born, penguins enfolding their single chicks and musk-ox turn to face down the white wolves of the Arctic.\u00a0 Would loved to have been inside her head.<\/p>\n<p>Kate worked outside today, weeding the blue-berry patches and other parts of the orchard.\u00a0 The good news is the clover has become established and has choked out the weeds.\u00a0 The bad news is that the clover threatens to choke out the blue-berries.\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 She is only two weeks out from her procedure tomorrow.\u00a0 Amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Our defended (defenced?) vegetable garden can now be worked without fear that a Rigel or a Vega will come along later and try to emulate any digging I might have done.\u00a0 Their work is not up to my exacting standards.\u00a0 The last greens came out today with the exception of some Swiss Chard that still has vitality.\u00a0 All that&#8217;s left in the garden now are strawberry plants, asparagus, garlic, parsnip and carrots.\u00a0 The first two are perennials, the latter three crops from this year that can stay in the ground for a while, carrots, or need to over winter, the parsnip and garlic.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn&#8217;t bring myself to patch the damage from the dogs.\u00a0 It is quite extensive and I find myself reactive when I work on it.\u00a0 It will keep until next spring.<\/p>\n<p>Then of course there was the Vikings-Packer game.\u00a0 Our defense had a bit of a let down late in the third quarter and the first part of the fourth, but they played brilliantly otherwise.\u00a0 So did Favre.\u00a0 At one point a Packer named Jennings fell on the Viking sideline very near Favre.\u00a0 Favre&#8217;s concern and his action, bending down to see how Jenning&#8217;s was, moved me.\u00a0 He seems to genuinely care for his team mates both current and former.\u00a0 He also plays like a little boy, jumping and waving his arms, picking up players who&#8217;ve just scored a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>After the game he had an interview in which he spoke warmly of the Packers and the fans there.\u00a0 It was a mature and sensitive moment.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s fun to see him play as a Viking.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t think I&#8217;d feel that way, but I do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samhain\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Full Dark Moon Rigel and Vega spent much of the day defending us from visiting neighborhood dogs.\u00a0 Of course, thanks to our record setting fence-lines no battle could be joined, but jaw-boning was much in evidence.\u00a0 This evening they came in, flopped down on the couch and went to sleep.\u00a0 That is except for &hellip;
