(We’ll set aside\u00a0being\u00a0there with a\u00a0two-cycle engine.)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n Roger came out today from Allied Generators.\u00a0 When we went through a spate of disaster planning last fall, we realized our home would not fare well in a power outage.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 No water since we get our pump from a well.\u00a0 That’s the big one.\u00a0 We could be\u00a0here with all the water we needed 180 feet below us and no way to get it to the surface.\u00a0 Dumb.\u00a0 Then, of course, there’s powering up the cell phones and\u00a0the computers for necessary communication.\u00a0 If Kate is to survive in a reasonably mellow state, we need the air con to work, too.\u00a0 All of our appliances have electric starter switches.\u00a0 And so on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The result of this got me to looking at generators.\u00a0 Consumer reports pointed out an obvious problem with gasoline powered generators.\u00a0 If there’s a problem with the electricity, filling station pumps don’t work.\u00a0 So, how do you supply the generator?\u00a0 Gas gets old, too, so storing much at home is problematic.\u00a0 Anyhow, the Kohler line of generators run on\u00a0natural gas which solves that problem.\u00a0 They also supply enough power to manage the whole house.\u00a0 Roger will send us an estimate this afternoon.\u00a0 It might be a sledge hammer to take care of a mosquito sized problem, but we’ll see.<\/p>\n Piece of trivia:\u00a0 Kohler got into the generator business in 1918 so customers could use their flush toilets and their bathtubs.\u00a0 What da ya know?<\/p>\n I got on a tear this last week or so, completing several major tasks in a short period of time.\u00a0 It reminded me of the way I used to work, juggling many complicated tasks over long periods of time.\u00a0 Back then I was productive, really productive.\u00a0 The old work method felt good to slip into for a while.\u00a0 Don’t know that I’d want to sustain it anymore.<\/p>\n <\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 32\u00a0 bar steep\u00a0rise\u00a030.22 4mph dewpoint 24 Spring \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waning Crescent Moon of Winds\u00a0 “I simply cannot think that human beings will be able to discard their desire and need for something that is sublime, something that transports them, takes them out of time, takes them out of the banality of the everyday world . . … Continue reading Kohler Generators<\/span>
