They mention <a href=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com\/2016\/09\/the-mountain-monks-of-japan\/\">Shugendo.<\/a> It&#8217;s a fourteen hundred year old tradition that has esoteric Buddhism, Taoism, and Shinto roots.
