I have crossed a threshold today.\u00a0\u00a0 A while back my treadmill started to not shut off when I turned it off.\u00a0 The treadmill kept going at a speed of 1.0 to 1.5 mph.\u00a0 After calling NOW Sports in Arden Hills, where, it turns out, I bought the machine (when they were in Maplewood), Mike the repair guy called Landice.\u00a0 They recommended replacing a harness that connects the dial to a rheostat and the computer board that controls the displays.\u00a0 I looked at it, and it didn’t look\u00a0 too difficult, so I ordered the $100 part.<\/p>\n
It came.<\/p>\n
Last night I took off the old harness and installed the new one.\u00a0 No joy.\u00a0 It didn’t work at all.\u00a0 That was a step backward, but, it was not an unusual outcome when I set out to repair things, so I called Mike.\u00a0 He said he’d call Landice and see if replacing the whole panel was the way to go.\u00a0 After I hung up, I started to go upstairs and I noticed lights on the display panel.\u00a0 Electricity!<\/p>\n
That meant I might not be as far off as I thought.\u00a0 I went back at it, jiggling wires.\u00a0 It went off again.\u00a0 Jiggled and moved some more wires.\u00a0 A click.\u00a0 A good sign.\u00a0 Then, I found the right position for everything, turned the treadmill to on and it worked.\u00a0 The elevation worked.\u00a0 I turned it off.\u00a0 It still ran.\u00a0 At this point you might think I was unhappy, but I wasn’t.\u00a0 This just meant that I had replaced the old harness with a new one and both were good.\u00a0 The important thing here is that I replaced the old one with a new one and the damned thing still worked.\u00a0 If that had been the\u00a0\u00a0solution, it would have worked.\u00a0 As it is, I spent $100 to prove to myself that I can work on things electronic.\u00a0 A cheap lesson overall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
