Just watched The Express, the story of Ernie Davis, the first African-American Heisman Trophy winner.\u00a0 It was heartfelt, but long.\u00a0 The story though is compelling, a black athlete growing up as Martin Luther King became prominent, a young man finding his identity both as a man and as a football player.\u00a0 It has a dark side, too.\u00a0 His eventual diagnosis of leukemia, coming right on the heels of his signing with the Cleveland Browns.\u00a0 He died the next year, 1963.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
