Late Wednesday. My Psalm of healing. For Friday’s class<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A Psalm. A Prayer. A Theology.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
O sullen divinity of my youth<\/p>\n
You took away my legs<\/p>\n
O silent god you made me lie down,<\/p>\n
Unable to walk. You imprisoned me.<\/p>\n
Lord of theft you stole my mother,<\/p>\n
Left us without her. Crying without hope.<\/p>\n
The abyss swallowed me.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And you let me disappear, fade away.<\/p>\n
A blanket held in the depth\u2019s chill.<\/p>\n
I shuddered, unable to throw it off.<\/p>\n
No joy. No walking with others. I stood alone<\/p>\n
Trickster god, wielder of sacred bewilderment.<\/p>\n
You had me. Oh. You had me.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And, I knew you not.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
After the fallow time had drained the world.<\/p>\n
That spring rhizomes, corms, bulbs and tubers awoke.<\/p>\n
Shook off winter cold and threw green up, up, up.<\/p>\n
Up toward the sky. Crowned it in colors so bright.<\/p>\n
Purple crocus, yellow crocus, Grape hyacinth.<\/p>\n
Stories of joy. Time to play!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The bees flew in and the bees flew out,<\/p>\n
Out to the flowers, into the hive. Out to the flowers.<\/p>\n
That ground hog high in the tree. The turtle on pilgrimage.<\/p>\n
The dogs. Always. Barking, running, bowing, chasing.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
On the garden bed: purpled beets, white onions, green leeks.<\/p>\n
Curved beans, firm tomatoes, potatoes, carrots.<\/p>\n
Soil clinging to them. The womb.<\/p>\n
How could I not hear the sacred music? Take part.<\/p>\n
Twirling as a dervish, ecstasy and freedom. Dance.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And you, silent god, still I knew you not.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But the one crowned with flowery garlands,<\/p>\n
Tasting of sweet food made in the honeycomb,<\/p>\n
This god, fried in my skillet and served with eggs,<\/p>\n
Not silent. Not dark. But sacred, yes. Divine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
