A virgin no more.\u00a0 I went the whole last season without a single bee sting.\u00a0 Today, when I brought food out to the hive, so they have something to eat until there are blossoms, I got stung.\u00a0 Twice.\u00a0 On the face and neck.\u00a0 OUCH.\u00a0 With the first one I forgot the wisdom from the weekend, threw up my hands, let loose with a few poorly chosen words and danced like ol’ St. Vitus.\u00a0 The second came after I suited up and discovered that I had enclosed a bee inside my veil.\u00a0 She was unhappy and it cost her.\u00a0 When honeybees sting, their abdomen comes out along with the stinger.\u00a0 So they die.<\/p>\n
I’m glad it’s finally happened.\u00a0 No more suspense.\u00a0 I didn’t die, so I imagine I’ll react better next time.\u00a0 Maybe.<\/p>\n
While I was out there, I cleared the mulch from the garlic.\u00a0 They like this kind of cool, wet weather.\u00a0 We have daffodils breaking the surface.\u00a0 Unfortunately, our magnolia tree thinks it’s mid-April.\u00a0 That’s not good for its blooms.<\/p>\n
The Awakening moon finds our land here doing just that.<\/p>\n
Here’s something I’m playing around with.\u00a0 I think there’s a difference between living on the land and living with the land.\u00a0 To live on the land means we place our house there, perhaps a swing set, grass, maybe even a few flowers and trees, but our daily life happens on the land or in our dwelling.\u00a0 To live with the land means some engagement with your land’s seasonal changes.\u00a0 There’s something here I think.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
