{"id":5849,"date":"2010-03-29T22:37:23","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T04:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=5849"},"modified":"2016-05-03T15:51:33","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T21:51:33","slug":"when-is-communication-not-communication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=5849","title":{"rendered":"When Is Communication Not Communication?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spring\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Full Awakening Moon<\/p>\n<p>Into Minneapolis for a meeting on strategic communication.\u00a0 This event featured such words as messaging and brand; both seem to have cabalistic charm for certain groups of people, especially, ironically, those involved in communication.\u00a0 There is a desire here to make communications flow more freely within and among aspects of the organization, a good idea, and to have consistent messaging and branding for external communications.\u00a0 Hmmm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The American Marketing Association (AMA) defines a brand as a &#8220;name, term, sign, symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Your brand resides within the hearts and minds of customers, clients, and prospects. It is the sum total of their experiences and perceptions, some of which you can influence, and some that you cannot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Messaging seems to mean, communicating through messages.\u00a0 Uhm.<\/p>\n<p>I find all this jargon amusing, confusing and obfuscating.\u00a0 We need to present ourselves clearly to the public.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We need to provide marks and symbols that give a consistent view to the public at large. Yes.\u00a0 We need to have clear messages within and among different aspects of the organization.
