{"id":5958,"date":"2010-04-09T16:19:35","date_gmt":"2010-04-09T22:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=5958"},"modified":"2016-05-16T08:52:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T14:52:41","slug":"burn-your-bag-boy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=5958","title":{"rendered":"Burn your bag, boy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spring\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Awakening Moon<\/p>\n<p>Two stories from the world around us.<\/p>\n<p>Michele Yates, a docent colleague, toured a group of second graders last week.\u00a0 At the James Ensor expressionist piece, &#8220;Intrigue&#8221;, a little boy raised his hand, &#8220;Look, you can see the paint.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still wet.&#8221;\u00a0 Turns out this young art connoisseur believed we had a basement filled with producers of art, crankin&#8217;em out every so often for the delight of the viewing public.\u00a0 A time when it would have been delightful to be inside his mind and see the imagined works underneath the museum.\u00a0 I see trolls and gnomes and dwarfs hard at work.\u00a0 How about you?<\/p>\n<p>(Frejya and the dwarfs)<\/p>\n<p>An l.e.d. sign for onion sets drew me off\u00a0 Highway 35E and put to Beisswinger&#8217;s Hardware Store.\u00a0 Beisswinger&#8217;s is a great old style hardware store with lots and lots of stuff cared for by employees who actually know how to use it all.\u00a0 When I took my brown sacks of red, yellow and white onion sets inside, it occurred to me that I still need a fence tester for our electric fence; the high voltage pulse knocks out ordinary voltmeters.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 I did it.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, he&#8217;d never heard of one, but agreed to look it up.\u00a0 Both of us were surprised when he found not one, but two.\u00a0 On the way to the electric fence tester aisle, he started this story exactly like this:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, Charlie Brown and I were in New Hampshire on my uncle&#8217;s farm.\u00a0 He&#8217;s an old guy, over 70, but wiry.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going out hunting [I&#8217;m thinking this is a joke, so I&#8217;m preparing to laugh whether it&#8217;s funny or not.\u00a0 He seems like a nice guy.] and the old man scrambles over an electric fence.\u00a0 Charlie Brown steps over it, but gets a jolt.&#8221;\u00a0 In his red Beisswinger store shirt, this guy seems believable.\u00a0 He goes on,\u00a0 &#8220;The old man hollers back over his shoulder, &#8216;Burn your bag, boy?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I had students from Eau Claire and New York Mills today.\u00a0 Both groups were fun, interested and engaged.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spring\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Awakening Moon Two stories from the world around us.
