A morning at the Rum River\u00a0Tree Farm.\u00a0 Kate and I went wandering among the trees up for adoption.\u00a0 We looked at fruit trees for our orchard apple, plum, pear and cherry.\u00a0 We also looked at some willows, Niobe for example, with a wonderful yellow gold bark.\u00a0 Great accent trees.\u00a0 The larch look great, too.\u00a0 Both of these require a wet environment, so we might have to change our irrigation system around a bit.<\/p>\n
River Birch clumps go for around $260.\u00a0 I figure 3 or four would transform the lower part of our front yard into a shady grove.\u00a0 One or two other trees, running up the slope, would follow the elevation.\u00a0 Kate wants lanes of grass among the trees.\u00a0 I want more trees, so I imagine we can come to a compromise.<\/p>\n
We also\u00a0will buy some tree lilacs, trees for our grandkids, planted in their honor.\u00a0 All of this comes from the permaculture thinking.\u00a0 I’ve added some to that page if you follow that part at all.<\/p>\n
Now it’s 72 degrees outside.\u00a0 This means it might be a good day for morels.\u00a0 It also means some of those seeds we sowed will begun to germinate, some more of them, I should say.<\/p>\n
