{"id":684,"date":"2008-06-08T15:40:49","date_gmt":"2008-06-08T21:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=684"},"modified":"2010-02-26T21:00:58","modified_gmt":"2010-02-27T03:00:58","slug":"the-o-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=684","title":{"rendered":"The O Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>73\u00a0 bar falls 29.59\u00a0 0mph E\u00a0 dew-point 63\u00a0 Beltane, cloudy<\/p>\n<p>Waxing Crescent of the Flower Moon<\/p>\n<p>Finished putting down Preen in the flower beds.\u00a0 The straw for mulch in the vegetable beds took a bit longer, but not much.\u00a0 The beets have grown, as have their bedmates, the carrots.\u00a0 The corn is ankle high by the 8th of June.<\/p>\n<p>The garlic nears its time for harvest.\u00a0 The water is shut off and I wait now for the stems to die back.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t know why I&#8217;m so fascinated with growing garlic, but I am.\u00a0\u00a0 Looks like a good crop.<\/p>\n<p>The onion bed, too, has made great strides.\u00a0 Green hollow leaves spear through the hay, sending food down to the bulbs underneath the ground, energy Kate and I will harvest.\u00a0 Two hills of gourds and one of squash have broken through and begun to leaf.\u00a0 The beans Kate planted are on their fourth and sixth leaves.\u00a0 Lettuce sown a while back has enjoyed the cool weather and begun to flourish.<\/p>\n<p>The tomato plants outside have yet to go through a real growth spurt and I finally pruned back the one inside.\u00a0 A different, more hydroponic friendly variety will produce better and now I have to find one.\u00a0 We continue to harvest lettuce each day for salads, so lettuce works.<\/p>\n<p>We have a few other stray plants in odd locations some watermelon, cucumber and peppers.\u00a0 They&#8217;re all healthy.<\/p>\n<p>The bearded iris have begun to bloom, while the smaller purple varities have begun to fade.\u00a0 Not much else blooming right now, save for the lilacs, the bleeding hearts and the annuals Kate planted.\u00a0 The garden is lush, green.
