This e-mail went out today to the Woolly Mammoths and the folks at Groveland<\/font>.\u00a0 I <\/font>wanted to add it here and alert you that I will post further mailings here, too.\u00a0 Political passion still burns in this heart, but it has been diffused over the last several years<\/font>.\u00a0 It is now coming, again, to a\u00a0point<\/font>.\u00a0 In politics focus, clarity and persistence are 98% of the struggle.\u00a0 <\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

As you may or may not know<\/font>, I<\/font> will be on the Sierra Club\u2019s <\/font>political committee for this election cycle<\/font>.\u00a0 As part of that work<\/font>, I hope to keep you informed.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

This mailing is a first step in that direction<\/font>.\u00a0 If,<\/font> for any reason<\/font>, you do not wish receive these updates (about one a week<\/font>, probably less until August or September), just shoot me an e-mail and I\u2019ll take you off the list.\u00a0 Alternatively, if yo<\/font>u know someone you think would be interested in these regular updates, you can send me their e-mail or suggest they send it to me themselves<\/font>.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0In their<\/font> 1991 book<\/font>,\u00a0 Generations<\/u>, authors<\/font>\u00a0William<\/font> Strauss<\/font><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/font>and Neil Howe <\/span><\/strong>predicted that the baby boom generation would meet one more major ethical challenge before they passed from the scene<\/font>.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t define that challenge<\/font>.\u00a0 I<\/font> have waited, watched, to see what<\/font> might emerge as our final generational call to action<\/font>.\u00a0 I <\/font>found my answer in Thomas Berry\u2019s book<\/font>, The Great<\/font> Work<\/font><\/u>.\u00a0 Berry<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> says that the current American generation has this Great Work<\/font>:\u00a0 To lead the world to a human presence on the planet compatible with the health and welfare of all living things.\u00a0\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/font> <\/font><\/p>\n

Work with the Sierra Club furthers the Great Work for me<\/font>.\u00a0 This kind of work requires partners, many, many partners<\/font>.\u00a0 Perhaps you will be or already are such a partner.<\/font>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
