I’d forgotten the all consuming nature of writing a novel.\u00a0 It goes to bed with you, advances into your dreams and wakes up with in the morning.\u00a0 Plot ideas, twists, character developments, inconsistencies, new characters.\u00a0 All aswirl.\u00a0 The novel bumps up against daily life, takes something from it, gives something back, a loop, a mobius strip.\u00a0 Feedback.\u00a0 A neuro-net firing and firing and firing.\u00a0 It’s fun, a wild ride while its cookin’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are plateaus.\u00a0 Superior Wolf landed on a plateau about 6 years ago, struggled to get off it a couple of times, then settled back down to rest.\u00a0 Jennie’s Dead has been on a bit more of an up and down ride. She’s in storage now, but I can sense her wanting to break out now that her brother has begun to get legs, take strides.<\/p>\n

Somehow, as happens in my life, momentum has increased.\u00a0 Both the velocity and the mass have kicked up at the same time, calling back into action skills set aside long ago.\u00a0 The Sierra Club work will require a good deal of time.\u00a0 The novel needs constant nourishment.\u00a0 So does the garden.\u00a0 These three alone would be a good deal, but I also have a sermon to write for September that will take at least a week of research, if not more.\u00a0 I’ve also agreed to take on managing the Docent Book Club and my term for that starts this month.\u00a0 Then there’s that pesky Africa check out tour.<\/p>\n

Right now this all feels good.\u00a0 Blood flowing, mind working.\u00a0 And I’m sure it will feel that way for a good while, probably on into December, then I’ll feel a need for a let down again.\u00a0 Right now, though, I’m jazzed.<\/p>\n

My Woolly meeting is in August this\u00a0 year.\u00a0\u00a0 I sent out the following e-mail so guys could prep for it.<\/p>\n

Hi!<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/font>Your Media Stream:\u00a0 This is the water from which you take much of your intellectual nourishment.\u00a0 What is it?\u00a0 The radio stations to which you listen, TV programs you watch, movies you see, books you read, magazines and newspapers you take or consult.\u00a0 I-Pod fare, music at home.\u00a0 Any media, in short, that you use for either entertainment or education.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/font>How will we organize the meeting?\u00a0 Like this\u2014please bring a book you are reading right now.\u00a0 Please bring a book you consider important and formative for you, perhaps one read long ago.\u00a0 Bring a copy of your favorite magazine.\u00a0 Be prepared to let us know your favorite radio program, TV program (if any), movie (again:\u00a0 current and from the past) and newspapers.\u00a0 We\u2019ll set music aside for this evening, but it might be fun to pick up again at some point as both Scott and Frank have led us to do at retreats.<\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/font>The physical objects themselves are important, so please bring whatever you can.\u00a0 2 books and 1 magazine at least.\u00a0 If you can jot down your favorite radio program, TV program and movies (past and present) and newspapers, I will collect your lists and send them to Bill to publish on our website.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/font>What\u2019s the point?\u00a0 To dip into each other\u2019s media stream for a bit, to hear why we like the books, movies, programs, newspapers and magazines that we choose.\u00a0 I imagine five-ten minutes each of sharing, then a round of conversation about what we\u2019ve heard.\u00a0 This is for fun and to expand our grasp of who we are.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
