{"id":7806,"date":"2010-09-19T22:49:41","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T04:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=7806"},"modified":"2016-05-15T14:06:13","modified_gmt":"2016-05-15T20:06:13","slug":"grounded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=7806","title":{"rendered":"Grounded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lughnasa\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waxing Back to School Moon<\/p>\n<p>Finished digging the potatoes.\u00a0 The crop seems smaller than last year&#8217;s, but I can&#8217;t tell for sure.\u00a0 Still, we don&#8217;t eat potatoes often and we have enough to last us quite awhile.\u00a0 Kate made an early autumn roast vegetable medley with onions, carrots, leaks, garlic, beets and one potato I pierced with the spading fork.\u00a0 It was delicious.\u00a0 So was the raspberry pie&#8211;of which we have two.\u00a0 Our raspberry bushes have been exuberant.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve still got leeks, greens, beets, carrots and squash in the ground.\u00a0 Some of it will stay in the ground until the frost and freeze gets serious.\u00a0 I made a mistake last year with the carrots and didn&#8217;t get them out before the ground froze.\u00a0 They became organic matter for the soil.\u00a0 We also left our entire potato crop out in our garage stair well.\u00a0 When the temps dropped down, way down, the potatoes froze, then thawed.\u00a0 Not good for potatoes.\u00a0 We&#8217;re trying to not make those mistakes this year.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll make new ones!<\/p>\n<p>Working with Leslie today reminded me of the punch there is in ministry.\u00a0 Yes, the institutional confines squeeze life out of faith, but the individuals, the people can put it back.\u00a0 She asked me an interesting question.\u00a0 We got to talking about Christianity and she wondered, &#8220;Do you miss it?&#8221;\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure anyone has asked just that question of me.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t, not at a faith level.<\/p>\n<p>I miss the thick web of relationships I once had there.\u00a0 I miss the opportunity to do bible study.\u00a0 That may sound strange, but higher criticism of the bible is a scholarly affair requiring history, language, knowledge of mythology and tradition, sensitivity to redactors (editors), an awareness of textual differences, as well as a knowledge of the bible as a whole.\u00a0 I spent a lot of time learning biblical criticism and I enjoyed it.\u00a0 Not much call for it in UU or humanist circles though.<\/p>\n<p>By the time my nap finished it was too late to put the shims in the hives.\u00a0 I hope there&#8217;s some clear, sunny time tomorrow.\u00a0 Also need to put the feeder back on the package colony.<\/p>\n<p>The Vikings.\u00a0 Not sure.\u00a0 Favre needs some better wide receivers, yes.\u00a0 The defense played well.\u00a0 Adrian Peterson did, too.\u00a0 It felt as if we were outcoached the last two games.\u00a0 Not sure about that, that&#8217;s a murky area to me, but something doesn&#8217;t feel quite right.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lughnasa\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waxing Back to School Moon Finished digging the potatoes.\u00a0 The crop seems smaller than last year&#8217;s, but I can&#8217;t tell for sure.\u00a0 Still, we don&#8217;t eat potatoes often and we have enough to last us quite awhile.\u00a0 Kate made an early autumn roast vegetable medley with onions, carrots, leaks, garlic, beets and one potato &hellip;
