{"id":822,"date":"2008-07-19T22:31:44","date_gmt":"2008-07-20T04:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=822"},"modified":"2008-07-19T22:31:44","modified_gmt":"2008-07-20T04:31:44","slug":"writing-makes-its-own-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=822","title":{"rendered":"Writing Makes Its Own Space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>66\u00a0 bar steady 29.79\u00a0 3mph NNW dew-point 63\u00a0 Summer night, rainy day<\/p>\n<p>Full Thunder Moon<\/p>\n<p>We had rain and storm, tornado warning and tornado watch.\u00a0 A full thunder moon day.\u00a0 The rain poured down, drenching the lily blooms, forming small rivers on the wide leaves of the acorn squash.\u00a0 While I read the first chapter of the book on the Western Unitarian Conference, the rain drained from the sky and onto the azalea, the begonia, the several amarylis and a bed full of hosta.\u00a0 Reading a good book while it rains or snows pleases me, makes me feel at home, in place.<\/p>\n<p>Kate harvested beans tonight, a few onions, too.\u00a0 I used the onions with some beets I bought at Festival, delicious.\u00a0 We also had a few early sugar snap peas and wax beans.\u00a0 Some fish.\u00a0 Some pasta with pesto made from hydroponic basil.\u00a0 An evening meal.<\/p>\n<p>Kate works this weekend, as she does every other weekend.\u00a0 Ten days in a row, a long stretch, but she likes the four days off it gives her.\u00a0 We pretend she&#8217;s retired on those days.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota UU history piece has begun to take shape, get bones.\u00a0 When there is a subject matter to master before I write, it usually takes me a while before I get a gestalt, a feel for the whole.\u00a0 Once I have that I know where I need more information, or that I do not.\u00a0 At that point I can sit down and write, usually in one setting.\u00a0 A few days later, after its cold, I go back, reread and edit, revise.\u00a0 Then I&#8217;ll put it away until I need to present it.<\/p>\n<p>This one has been a bit unusual in that history requires a certain precision and accuracy with details, chronological sequence, names and places.\u00a0 This means the material that I use to illustrate and make my points must get reordered to fit my needs, yet remain accurate and true. \u00a0 It&#8217;s part of what I love about this kind of work.<\/p>\n<p>When I have this kind of work, it pushes out everything else.\u00a0 The writing work makes its own space in my life, creates openings and time for itself.\u00a0 Just like this blog.\u00a0 It happens each day, two to three times a day and often I do not recall having written here.\u00a0 The breadcrumbs, though, are there, laid down in words and postings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>66\u00a0 bar steady 29.79\u00a0 3mph NNW dew-point 63\u00a0 Summer night, rainy day Full Thunder Moon We had rain and storm, tornado warning and tornado watch.\u00a0 A full thunder moon day.\u00a0 The rain poured down, drenching the lily blooms, forming small rivers on the wide leaves of the acorn squash.\u00a0 While I read the first chapter &hellip;
