The African collection does not excite me. \u00a0 I’m not sure why.\u00a0 Africa as a continent and African history, especially pre-colonial Africa have fascinated me since college when I took several courses related to these areas as well as African anthropology.\u00a0 Contemporary African politics also hold my attention.\u00a0 The art does not.\u00a0 There are pieces that are, for me, exceptions.\u00a0 The Ife Shrine Head.\u00a0 Kente cloth.\u00a0 The Magadelene Odundo reduced black ceramics.\u00a0 The gold weights.\u00a0 The female sculptures.\u00a0 The rest does not draw me in.\u00a0 This is me, I know, for many find these objects stunning, even path breaking when it comes to representation.<\/p>\n
