{"id":8921,"date":"2010-12-29T09:35:23","date_gmt":"2010-12-29T15:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=8921"},"modified":"2016-05-15T10:17:49","modified_gmt":"2016-05-15T16:17:49","slug":"first-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ancientrails.com\/?p=8921","title":{"rendered":"First Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Winter\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waning Moon of the Winter Solstice<\/p>\n<p>Walker stands with national peers in <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.walkerart.org\/offcenter\/2010\/12\/13\/walker-stands-with-national-peers-in-support-of-artistic-freedom\/\">support of artistic freedom<\/a>.\u00a0 This is a big deal and I&#8217;m proud to be part of a community and an artistic\/museum community that supports artistic freedom.<\/p>\n<p>54 years ago I began carrying newspapers for the Alexandria Times-Tribune, a paper route that went west on Monroe Street from Harrison, then fanning out toward the then brand new elementary school.\u00a0 Learning to fold the evening paper, the Trib was a daily back then, in a square, and how to pitch it in a gentle arc that landed on my customers doorsteps gave me physical pleasure, a manual skill.<\/p>\n<p>My dad was editor of the paper then, so the question of freedom of speech was, at least in our house, not a question at all but a loud proclamation, made every day about 3:30 p.m. when the Trib hit the streets courtesy of myself and several other carriers.<\/p>\n<p>(This artist made the banned movie:\u00a0 David Wojnarowicz\u00a0\u00a0 Four Elements\u00a0 1990 lithograph on paper\u00a0 T.B.
