Summer                                                              Most Heat Moon

Kate went to city hall (which looks like a 1960’s elementary school rather than a gothic stone fortress) and got a permit. Jon can continue on and we’re covered once the inspector checks the work at the end. One more item off the list. And, now I can sleep.

Yesterday I went on Google Earth and looked at some of the homes we’re considering in Colorado. This way we can see the home in its context, not just the interior and immediate exterior shots in the real estate listings. Some homes that look isolated, private are actually butted up against neighbors, but some sit in splendid isolation. Just right.

File under irony:  WASHINGTON — Passengers at some overseas airports that offer U.S.-bound flights will be required to power on their electronic devices in order to board their flights, the Transportation Security Administration said Sunday.

Jon’s off to play golf at Ft. Snelling with his buddy, Max. They plan to finish the deck afterward. Ruthie and I are going into the MIA at 11:oo am where I plan to give her tour of objects related to Greek mythology. That’s her favorite right now.

The primary motivation for our move to Colorado is here this weekend. Family.

Jen and grandson Gabe are in Denver while granddaughter Ruth and Jon are in Andover. We’ve discussed areas of Colorado with Jon and he says Bailey, where there are several properties that look good in our price range, is beautiful and cool. “A couple of thousand feet of elevation really breaks the high temperatures,” he says.

Outside work today.

Summer                                                              New (Most Heat) Moon

It’s been a fruitful but exhausting morning. The dogs are upset. Vega’s barking at the back door non-stop because she wants lunch and, usually, what Vega wants, Vega gets. (although I must say she’s pretty reasonable. Usually her insistence involves either food or going to sleep.) I finished packing up all the books in the six bookcases and moved a very large container of trash up to the recycling.

The Sort Toss Pack folks are here moving boxes, furniture, books and fragile stuff. This is all progress and once it’s over we’ll feel like we’ve made an advance, but right now, it’s a bit stressful. Not in a bad way, but stressful nonetheless.

Glad they’re moving the boxes and not me. Furniture, the same.

strawberries600 2011 06 22_0973Sprayed the orchard and the vegetable garden this morning and picked strawberries. Holding a 2 gallon sprayer filled with liquid taxes my biceps. I could lift it, no problem at all, but carrying it with the muscle flexed to keep the sprayer wand closer to the leaves? That begins to ouch the bicep. Hate to think what I’d be like if I didn’t work out regularly.

The heat has begun to build, more solar energy per square foot available. Many vegetables jump up in height and shade of green, reaching for even more, getting a tiny bit closer , spreading leaves out for maximum absorption. They’re running their photosynthetic processes as long and as hard as they can, taking advantage of the sun. The result will be foods with high nutrient value.

Beltane                                                               Summer Moon

Some Latin, some packing, some dog brushing, a nap, a movie. A Sunday.

Beltane                                                             Summer Moon

A quote by Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset, passed on by Bill Schmidt, and to which I say amen.

Every life is a point of view directed upon the universe. Strictly speaking, what one life sees no other can. Every individual, whether person, nation or epoch, is an organ, for which there can be no substitute, constructed for the apprehension of truth…. Without the development, the perpetual change and the inexhaustible series of adventures which constitute life, the universe, or absolutely valid truth, would remain unknown…. [R]eality happens to be, like a landscape, possessed of an infinite number of perspectives, all equally veracious and authentic. The sole false perspective is that which claims to be the only one there is.

Beltane                                                            Summer Moon

A tide of energy seems to be sweeping in after the Sunday slows. Boxes getting filled, real estate agents interviewed, gardening tasks accomplished. Guess my body figures it’s back in the work week now. Funny how that lifelong habituation can affect mood.
